Port Charlotte 10 years is a real Islay whiskey whose distilling, maturing and bottling all take place on this iconic whiskey island. In total, this Port Charlotte whisky, which contains 50% alcohol, is largely matured in American oak, but some ex-French wine barrels have also been used. This is a ‘heavily peated’ whisky, which means that smoke and peat influences can be found in abundance.
The fragrance opens with both smoky and maritime notes. Furthermore, hints of oak, vanilla, caramel, citrus and herbs are present. The flavors are full, but subtle despite the relatively high alcohol content. Notes of oak, creamy vanilla, coconut and lemon give way to hints of salt and oysters. The aftertaste is sublime and is mainly characterized by smoke influences. In the background there are soft notes of fruit and oak.
