Nose:
Intense flavor from a timeless thread of peat smoke. A beautiful combination of dried fruits, nutmeg, ginger and beautifully polished oak plus dates, figs and raisins, heavy but sweet.
-
Palate:
Similar to the nose, it starts off with a strong sherry sweetness, followed with dry smokiness that reveals itself yielding to softer oak tones. Hints of vanilla and spices in the background.
-
Finish:
Long and fruity but also sweet with an elegant wood smoke.
-
Conclusion:
Macallan Rare Cask Black is a very complex and successful whisky. It will please a lot of whisky lovers with different choices due to its playful balance between peat and sherry. With its 450$ price tag and only 100 casks with no future plans for more, makes this more of a collector`s item than an everyday dram. The presentation of the bottle and packaging is amazing and really looks good.
