The Macallan James Bond 60th anniversary Release
The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release has been unveiled to mark The Six Decades of James Bond films. The collection comprises six limited edition bottles with each unique pack designed to reflect the decade that it represents, bringing to life the creative development process of the films in a behind the scenes exploration of the James Bond archives.
The single malt whisky has been created by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell to reflect the enduring character of James Bond, a force of nature defined by his Scottish heritage, who carries himself with modesty and humility. Like James Bond, the expression exudes a sense of style and maturity which has evolved over the years.
In recent years, The Macallan has become James Bond’s whisky of choice and, most recently, it featured in Skyfall when James Bond drinks The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962 as an ode to the 50th anniversary.
Jaume Ferras, Global Creative Director for The Macallan, said, “This October, James Bond will celebrate its 60th anniversary, making it the longest running and one of the most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, comprising 25 films over six decades and six lead actors over time. The Macallan is James Bond’s whisky of choice and as two renowned global brands, we share many synergies, most notably as modern innovators linked by our Scottish heritage.”
The Macallan has also created a series of immersive experiences to celebrate the 60th anniversary of James Bond including a unique exhibition – The Macallan in Cinema – at The Macallan Estate, which will take viewers through The Macallan’s history on film and transport them through the six decades of James Bond. A selection of films from across the years will also be shown at The Macallan Estate during a series of exclusive screenings.
The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release will have an RRSP of €800 / $800/ £600.
DECADE I
The 1960s was a singular decade for James Bond. The debut of the suave spy icon onto the silver screen in 1962 was embodied by the inimitable Sean Connery, who went on to appear in six films across the next ten years. Resting only when George Lazenby starred in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1969, Sir Sean was to roar back in triumph in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever.
The pack design includes sketches from Goldfinger (1964), You Only Live Twice (1967) where Little Nellie is in a combat sequence, and the dummy jet pack worn by Bond in Thunderball (1965).
THE BOND ARCHIVE
The distinct range tells the story of innovation over 60 years and the pioneering character attributes of James Bond and The Macallan. Bond is a modern innovator and man of perennial evolution. The Bond films have become closely associated with ingenious 007 gadgets that are used on Bond’s mission to deliver for the greater good; and have become a hallmark of the franchise’s popularity.

The working prototype of the jet pack worn by Bond for Thunderball, ‘Bell Rocket Belt’ was used in the opening title’s flying sequences, flown by test pilot Bill Suitor, and the Bond art department created an exact replica for Connery to wear.

DECADE II
The 1970s saw the rise of Roger Moore’s Bond. He brought different, mischievous facets and humour to the character, cheering up a somewhat dire decade.
A man for the times, he overcame filmic adversaries with elegant aplomb. While the business of making movies remained as serious as whisky distilling, he reminded us that life is about enjoyment of the finer, better still the finest, of all that it offers.
The packaging design includes sketches and storyboards from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Stromborg’s Atlantis marine research lab, and various space station concepts from Moonraker (1979).

DECADE III
In the 1980s Roger Moore’s playfulness gave way to an altogether different tone with the arrival of Timothy Dalton as the next Bond. He was frequently seen re-reading the Ian Fleming texts on set, determined to capture the author’s original character study.
Dalton’s brooding depth revealed new levels of the character. Through The Living Daylights and A Licence to Kill, Bond’s stoic integrity telegraphed the pressures of constant vigilance. He fulfilled his duties heroically, his burden willingly shouldered.
The packaging design features a logo concept art from Octopussy (1983), an A.T.A.C Operations area sketch and storyboard sequence for the film For Your Eyes Only (1981).

In 1995, Bond arrived in the shape of Pierce Brosnan. He brought a new sensitivity to the classic, winning Bond formula. Productions grew more complex and the essence of James Bond’s world was relayed with devoted attention to detail.
The packaging design features a pre-title action sequence storyboard from GoldenEye (1995) and the concept for a stealth ship in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

DECADE V
Leaving the 90s behind, Daniel Craig embodies the Bond of the noughties. From his first appearance in Casino Royale, never was a card game presented so stylishly and with more tension in any other film. The setting, ingredients, character and dedication to craft combine to deliver an utterly compelling result.
The packaging design features a dramatic car sequence from Casino Royale (2006), and a digitally sketched rooftop chase in Quantum Of Solace (2008).

DECADE VI
In 2012 Skyfall brought the audience back to James Bond’s childhood home, but also tragically destroyed it. Daniel Craig’s performances endeared further notes of domesticity, deep love and family.
Making the character more relatable than ever, Craig reveals a vulnerable humanity at Bond’s core, without compromising any trademark resolve or physical capability.
The packaging design features childhood home Skyfall Lodge in Skyfall (2012), and a Day of the Dead poster from Spectre (2015).
